Netherlands Considers Concessions on Nexperia Control to Restore Chip Exports from China
The Dutch government is prepared to relinquish oversight of Nexperia, a critical semiconductor firm, contingent upon China resuming chip exports to Europe. This standoff has crippled automotive production lines across the continent, with manufacturers like BMW and Volkswagen facing severe shortages of essential components.
Negotiations hinge on two conditions: China must restart shipments, and financial disputes between Nexperia and its Shanghai-based parent Wingtech Technology must be resolved. Market sentiment appears optimistic—Wingtech's shares surged nearly 10% following hints of a potential agreement.
Dutch Economic Affairs Minister Vincent Karremans signaled progress, stating, "Constructive talks with Chinese authorities give us confidence that chip supplies to Nexperia's clients will resume imminently." The conflict originated in September when Dutch regulators seized control amid allegations of fund mismanagement by Wingtech's founder.
